Mobile Security Checking system

One of the most pressing social issues currently is civilian population security.

For sometime, airline passengers have been required to carry liquid items onto a plane in a transparent bag.  More recently, technology has created wider invasion of privacy concerns with full body scan technology.

Baggage x-ray technology was traditionally undertood to be airport location devices, however schools, museums and government buildings are increasingly seeing this technology introduced.  Seemingly though these devices have seen little development or adaptation to meet new environments and requirements.

Starting from this viewpoint, we decided to revist this product and project a future concept that would begin to address the new and ever changing environments in which this technology is appearing.

A contempory visual language and the use of base materials (wood and brushed metal) create and unobtrusive feel and creates a piece of furniture that would be fitting in any environment.  The mobility of the unit allows it multiple use and storage configurations.

When active as an x-ray machine, a full width display provides 1:1 imagery of the items being check as they pass though.  This screen can be repurposed as an information display when the device is not required for security use.

The bring your own device movement has become a big security headache for technology executives, who need to offer choice, support multiple devices and secure data, according to a Forrester Research survey.

The survey's findings break down like this:

• 55 percent of executives expect to support more devices in the next 12 months.
• 66 percent of employees use two or more devices such as a desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet. 
• 12 percent of employees use tablets.
• 16 percent of employees use four devices.
• 52 percent of companies are focused on supporting mobile workers better.
• 18 percent of companies are implementing enterprise application stores.

But the worry for tech execs revolves around securing devices and applications. As a result, mobile decision makers are planning to spend heavily on mobile device management tools in the next 12 months. That reality could be a boon to the struggling Research in Motion, which has focused on managing BlackBerry devices as well as the popular Apple iOS and Android smartphones.
